R.I.P. Todd Snider ~ Oct. 11, 1966 - Nov. 14, 2025
We were shocked and deeply saddened by the news that our longtime friend, Todd Snider, left us yesterday. Todd was part of the station for over 35 years--from the beginning to the end of his career--and it's hard to find the words....
Todd found his way to WEVL shortly after moving to Memphis, sometime in 1989-90. He made his radio debut at our old Rayner Street studio, frequently playing on the Friday night Memphis Beat show. He was soon appearing on shows like Barstool #1, Through The Cracks and others, becoming a listener favorite with his charm and incredible songwriting and storytelling skills.
Todd paid us back in 1993 with a benefit at the old Daily Planet club where he got his start. When his music took off nationally, he promised himself he'd come back and do another benefit for us. WEVL, he said, was "family to me when I moved here to this town and I'm never gonna forget it."
He didn't forget it. Life got in the way, but Todd made good on that promise in 2023 with a fundraiser that went down as one the station's most memorable concerts ever. Rarely have we seen an artist hold an audience the way Todd did that night!
Todd made a lot of friends at WEVL and gained two lifetime Super Fans in Ed Dirmeyer and Anne Howard.
Rest easy and in peace, old friend. You'll always be heard on WEVL.
